Electoral Area A OCP Review

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is undertaking a review of the Official Community Plan for Electoral Area A (Salmon River-Lakes) which includes the Salmon Valley, Nukko Lake, Chief Lake, Ness Lake and Reid Lake areas. Official community plans (OCP) describe the long-term vision of communities. They are a statement of objectives and policies that guide planning and land use management decisions.

The current OCP for Electoral Area A was prepared in 1996 and adopted in 1997. It is time for an update to reflect and balance the natural environment, population growth and housing and development needs. This update is estimated to be complete by summer 2025.

About OCPs

  • OCPs establish the long-term community vision, goals and policies to guide the Regional District Board’s decisions on how land is used and developed
  • OCPs are a community document that need public input to be updated to ensure the vision, goals and objectives reflect current community values and needs
  • public engagement can inform how land is used and developed, and identifies social, environmental and economic priorities for the next 20 years
  • OCPs can inform budget processes and grant applications for funding from other levels of government and agencies
  • input is gathered on technical matters from Regional District administration, First Nations, local government agencies like the school district, provincial ministries and the public

Public engagement

There are three opportunities for you to be involved in this OCP update:

Visioning

Your input has helped identify the OCP's future vision, goals and objectives through seven in-person events held between May 30 and July 26, 2024 and an online survey.

These public engagement opportunities were promoted by mailing postcards to addresses within the OCP boundary, posting flyers in high profile community locations, advertising in the Prince George Citizen, and posting on the Regional District's Facebook page and this project website. During the in-person events, sandwich boards were also placed on the road outside the event locations.
