Subdividing is the process of dividing a single piece of land into two or more parcels. This can be a complex process, as it involves many agencies within the province. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) and the Provincial Approving Officer review proposed subdivisions to ensure applications follow:

  • Provincial regulations
  • local government bylaws
  • the public’s best interest

When MoTI is reviewing a subdivision proposal, they forward the proposal to the Regional District. to assess if the proposal also aligns with relevant local bylaws. MoTI may refuse applications that do not align with Regional District bylaws.
