Loan for The Exploration Place approved

The Fraser-Fort George Museum Society which operates The Exploration Place in Prince George asked the Regional District to consider the provision of a $500,000 loan to help with financial pressures faced by the society. Recycling collection changes

Recycling collection services at all Regional District transfer stations are changing. The contractor who currently provides the recycling bins and hauling service is unable to continue the service past May 31. The Regional District Board has approved an agreement with Recycle BC to establish principal collection depots at the Mackenzie, Quinn Street and Valemount transfer stations. The principal collection depots are expected to be operational sometime this fall. The Regional District is also working with Recycle BC to determine what other sites satisfy Recycle BC’s criteria for other collection depots. Further information is expected in the coming months. These changes do not impact the residential recycling curbside collection program in Prince George.

Agriculture plastics recycling program extended one year

The Regional District has approved a one year extension to an agriculture plastics recycling pilot project in McBride. From 2021 to 2023, the Regional District partnered with Cleanfarms for a pilot program in McBride to collect and recycle end-of-life bale wrap, silage tarp and baler twine. To date, more than 12,200 kgs of grain bags and twine have been collected. The cost of the extension is $40,485.
