Waste and recycling accepted at this site
You can drop off small loads under 100 kg of household waste for $6 per visit. Larger loads will be charged $98 per tonne.
Multi-material recycling collection is temporarily suspended at this Regional District transfer station.
The Prince George residential curbside recycling collection program operated by Recycle BC is not impacted by this service interruption, so the majority of Prince George households can continue to use this recycling service.
If you are a Prince George and area resident not serviced by the residential curbside collection program you can take your recycling to:
- Prince George Recycling Centre off Vance Road, open Monday to Saturday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
- Hart Return-It Centre on the Hart Highway, open Monday to Saturday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Alternatively, if you have space you can clean and store recycling until the new depots are operational.
You can recycle small loads of metal including:
- non-frigerated appliances
- stoves, dishwashers, washers and dryers
- barbeque hulks
- bicycle frames
- lawnmower, motorcycle and snowmobile frames
- with no fuel, lubricants or tires
- metal roofing and siding
- steel drums or tanks
- must be cut, crushed or perforated
Private scrap metal dealers are also available for commercial operators and auto hulk disposal.
You can recycle appliances that contain refrigerant including:
- air conditioners
- dehumidifiers
- fridges
- freezers
These items are accepted free of charge by the Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable (MARR).
You can effectively deal with yard and garden waste by composting in your backyard. The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) has more information on composting and runs workshops.
Large quantities of yard and garden waste are also accepted free of charge at the site for composting including:
- leaves
- grass and hedge clippings
- plants and flowers
- vegetable stalks
- shrub and tree branches up to 75 mm (3 in) in diameter
You can recycle some products including used oil, filters and containers, and used antifreeze and containers.
Cooking oil, brake fluid and grease are not accepted for recycling.
You can recycle one empty 20 lb propane tank.

You need a permit from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George to dispose of controlled waste at Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill.
Application forms
You must apply to dispose of controlled waste using these new application forms. Any applications submitted using older versions of the form will have to be re-submitted using the new forms.
Completed applications must be submitted by email to landfillcontrolledwaste@rdffg.bc.ca and printed forms are not accepted.

Other materials are identified as controlled waste are:
- bulky waste
- camp waste
- condemned food
- creosote treated wood
- dead animals
- food processing waste

- pumpings from commercial laundry lint traps and parking lot and car wash drainage sumps
- screening from municipal sewage treatments plants and pumping stations
- sterilized biomedical waste and sharps from certified sterilization facilities
- vehicle hulks
- wood ash from industrial operations
Tipping fees and minimum charges are available upon request.
There is a charge of $98 per tonne with a $6 minimum charge to dispose of refuse or demolition, land clearing and construction waste.

When you bring waste and recycling to any Regional District facility, always make sure your load is properly secured.
Salvaging materials from marshalling areas or transfer and recycling bins is not permitted.
Waste and recycling accepted at other locations
When you buy new tires you can leave your used tires with the retailer for recycling. You can also recycle used tires that are off rims at drop-off locations. Visit Tire Stewardship BC for more information.
