Dore River Erosion Mitigation

After the 2020 Dore River flood, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George worked with impacted community members to apply for a grant for an erosion mitigation project.

Project activities and developments

The Dore River Armouring Management and Maintenance Service Area was established and property owners were advised the taxable service bylaw was adopted and if bank armouring
could be completed, taxation would start the year after construction.

December 2025 update

The construction of Dore River armouring is complete and vegetation planting and the monitoring program will start in spring 2026.

In 2026, taxes will also start for the Dore Riverfront Armouring Management and Maintenance – Taxable Service Area and they will be included on 2026 property tax notices. Residents will pay for all the monitoring, repairs and replanting needed on this project through these taxes.

Monitoring

The armouring rock and vegetation will be monitored on an on-going basis by qualified professionals and the Regional District is required to submit monitoring reports to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 10 years.

Repairs and replanting

If you have armouring rock and vegetation planted along your property, please do not disturb it.

  • If you notice any changes to armouring rock or vegetation, contact the Regional District.
  • The vegetation is being planted to re-establish the riparian area habitat. If a significant amount of vegetation dies, is altered or is removed, it will have to be replanted to meet the Department of Fisheries and Oceans requirements.
