Controlled Waste

Controlled waste is received at Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill and is defined as material requiring additional or special handling.

You can direct questions, requests for prior approval, and permit applications to: landfillcontrolledwaste@rdffg.bc.ca

Obtain a permit prior to disposal for these waste types:

  • Asbestos (friable & non-friable)
  • Biosolids (waste sludge from municipal treatment facilities)
  • Condemned foods
  • Contaminated soils
  • International waste

Obtain approval prior to disposal for these waste types:

  • Creosote treated wood
  • Sterilized biomedical waste (received from certified sterilization facilities)
  • Sterilized sharps (received from certified sterilization facilities)
  • Wood ash from industrial operations

There are time restrictions prior to disposal for these waste types:

  • Bulky waste – deposited one hour (1) prior to closing (>1.5m³ and >2.5m long)
  • Dead animals – deposited three hours (3) before closing
  • Food processing waste – deposited one hour (1) before closing
