Controlled waste is received at Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill and is defined as material requiring additional or special handling.

- Biosolids (waste sludge from municipal treatment facilities)

Obtain approval prior to disposal for these waste types:
- Creosote treated wood
- Sterilized biomedical waste (received from certified sterilization facilities)
- Sterilized sharps (received from certified sterilization facilities)
- Wood ash from industrial operations
There are time restrictions prior to disposal for these waste types:
- Bulky waste – deposited one hour (1) prior to closing (>1.5m³ and >2.5m long)
- Dead animals – deposited three hours (3) before closing
- Food processing waste – deposited one hour (1) before closing
