You can request an inspection by contacting Prince George Building Inspection Services with the building permit number or the permit address and inspection needed. Please allow 48 hours’ notice to book an inspection.

A building inspector is available in Valemount on Tuesdays and McBride on Wednesdays from 10 am to 4 pm. You can request an appointment in McBride by contacting McBride Building Inspection Services.

Standard inspection list
These inspections may vary by project.
Footings
- when footing forms are complete, before pouring concrete
Foundation
- when foundation wall forms are complete, before pouring
- if required, submit registered professional’s letters of assurance before framing
Backfill
- when the perimeter drain rock, drain tiles, foundation insulation* and damp proofing is completed, before backfilling
- the survey (if required) for the foundation location is required before approval of Backfill
Rough-in plumbing
- when rough-in plumbing is completed before covering
- water or air test must be visually confirmed by Building Official
- this can be completed in two inspections for plumbing under the slab and above ground
Soil gas
- after the soil gas control is installed
Pre-slab
- before pouring concrete floor slab
- air barrier system and insulation must be installed*
Masonry fireplace
- when masonry fireplace is constructed to the smoke chamber and again when the chimney is complete, before interior or exterior finish
Framing
- when framing, exterior sheathing, fire stopping, bracing, plumbing, HVAC and electrical are completed and before any interior and exterior finish are applied
- Regional District Plan with reviewed/stamped drawings and truss/beam details must be onsite
Exterior sheathing
- after building is framed, roofing plus all windows and doors are installed, exterior fittings and penetrations are in place but before air barrier is installed on the exterior
- braced wall band details must be onsite if applicable
Exterior air barrier
- exterior building wrap is installed, and all head and sill flashings are in place
- all penetrations through building wrap are sealed and flashed as required
Chimney
- when the chimney is installed before interior or exterior finish
Insulation
- when insulation and vapour barrier are completed, before installing drywall or other finish
Heating unit
- when the solid fuel burning appliance is installed but prior to covering up
Occupancy
- when a building has received all applicable inspections and meets all health and safety requirements
- if registered professional’s letters of assurance are required, no occupancy is granted until the letters of assurance are received
- final sewage approval, proof of potable water, final gas/electrical and energy advisory report* are required before the occupancy inspection
Final
- when building and grading is complete
