Starting March 10, 2025, all Building Permit applications in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George must comply with the braced wall panel requirements in the 2024 BC Building Code. These changes are designed to enhance the resistance of lateral loads from wind or earthquakes, and increase the resilience of wood framed construction.
You can avoid delays in your Building Permit application by:
- including a lateral braced wall band and panel plan showing:
- wall bracing legend
- wall bracing schedule
- braced wall length by zone within the band
- layout of each floor
- location of braced wall bands for each floor
- construction detail of each braced wall panel (sheathing, fasteners etc.)
- hiring a braced wall band designer to assist with compliance, if needed
- working with a P.Eng. if you choose the structural design approach for greater design flexibility
