The Regional District is undertaking a review of the Official Community Plan for Electoral Area A, which includes Salmon Valley, Nukko Lake, Chief Lake and Ness Lake. Through a collaboration with UNBC, two events are planned to invite feedback from community members aged 18 to 45.
The Community Idea Board events are an opportunity to learn about the challenges and barriers faced by those living and working in a rural setting. Information gathered from the sessions will be used to assist the Regional District in updating the Official Community Plan for Electoral Area A, focusing on housing and agriculture.
Two Community Idea Board events are being held:
- Tuesday March 12, 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Ness Lake Community Hall
- Wednesday March 13, 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Salmon Valley Fire Hall
The events are open house style, so community members are invited to drop in and share their perspectives.
The events are in addition to other consultation taking place as part of the OCP review. There is also an online survey on housing and agriculture that will be released shortly.
The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the University of Northern British Columbia have come together to provide students an opportunity for hands on learning and participation with the Regional District’s land use planning processes. A new course entitled Rural Futures in BC’s Provincial North is being offered this semester through UNBC’s School of Planning and Sustainability and through that, students are assisting the Regional District with some of the community engagement processes as part of the OCP review.
Official community plans (OCP) describe the long-term vision of communities. They are a statement of objectives and policies that guide decisions on planning and land use management. The current OCP for Electoral Area A was adopted in 1997.
