2024 provisional budget set for Regional Hospital District; Annual landfill reports received; Board recognizes retiring CAO; Committee appointments set
2024-2028 provisional budget set for Regional Hospital District
The Regional Hospital District Board has approved a five-year provisional budget for 2024-2028. The five-year provisional budget includes the Regional Hospital District’s contribution to the UHNBC Acute Care Tower Early Works project for $41,288,000 which will see the construction of a new parkade at UHNBC along with the demolition of the Northern Interior Health Unit building, in preparation for construction of a new Acute Care Tower. The 2024 RHD budget will be finalized in March 2024.
Annual landfill report received
The 2022 Annual Report for the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill was received. Highlights of the report include:
- a total of 114,440 tonnes of material was managed at the Foothills facility
- 40,023 tonnes of material received at the Landfill were diverted through recycling, onsite use as cover material
- approximately 74,417 tonnes of waste was buried at the facility from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022
- 6,328.7 tonnes of yard and garden waste were received in 2022 and a total volume of composted material sold in 2021 was 6,034 cubic meters
- based on the Volume and Site Life Assessment, the estimated lifespan of cell #1 will extend beyond 2027
Board recognizes retiring CAO
The Regional District Board recognized outgoing CAO Jim Martin. Martin is retiring at the end of the year after nearly 30 years with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, including 17 years as the Chief Administrative Officer. An announcement regarding a new CAO is expected shortly.

The Regional District approved a number of appointments to standing committees, external agencies, and select committees. Directors appointed to external agencies include:

Community Grants
The Board approved the following requests for Community and Recreation Grants:
- $600 to the Nukko Lake Recreation Commission for program expenses
- $3,000 to the Nadislnich Lake Community Association for trail maintenance
- $25,000 to the Prince George Backcountry Recreation Association for cabin maintenance
- $2,500 to the Buckhorn Elementary Parent Advisory Council for bussing
- $3,394 to the Buckhorn Recreation Commission for insurance, popcorn maker and family fun night
- $68,687 to the Hixon Community Association for repairs, insurance and operating expenses
- $4,999 to the Hixon Seniors Activity Society for operating and insurance expenses
- $15,000 to the Hixon Women’s Institute for operating and insurance expenses
- $6,805 to the Bear Lake Recreation Association for storage container and installation
