Make it a green Christmas

Gift experiences, not items

Still looking for some last-minute gifts? Bring people together by gifting your time with a homemade coupon book or an experience. You can also reduce your Christmas footprint with gifts like event tickets, restaurant reservations and gift cards.

Homemade decorations

Make your own decorations from dried fruit, pine cones, holly, river stones and evergreen branches. If you do need to buy new decorations, buy reusable ones that will last for years and keep unnecessary waste out of the landfill.

Reusable gift wrapping

Instead of buying single use wrapping paper, you can use cloth or fabric bags. If you need wrapping paper for large presents, there are usually flat sections you can keep and reuse. Fancy ribbons and bows can be stored until next year.

Christmas trees

After the holidays, you can bring Christmas trees to any Regional District transfer station or landfill. Just make sure that all decorations, lights and tinsel are removed.

In Prince George, the City of Prince George and Job’s Daughters are also hosting a tree recycling event at CN Centre on January 6 and 7 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
