As of March 31, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is providing fire dispatch services for the City of Nelson.
With this new agreement, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George now provides dispatch services for 100 fire/rescue agencies. This includes all municipalities and electoral areas within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, as well as other local governments through fee for service agreements in the Bulkley Nechako, Cariboo, Central Kootenay, and Kitimat Stikine regional districts.
“The Regional District of Fraser Fort George fire dispatch service has the staffing, technology and experience to support a large and diverse network of fire/rescue agencies,” said Melanie Perrin, Senior Manager of Public Safety Services.
When someone in one of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George’s service areas calls 911, the call is first answered by E-Comm, which determines the type of emergency and routes the call to police, fire or ambulance dispatch centres as required. When a call requires fire/rescue services, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George then dispatches firefighters and coordinates response resources. This service operates 24 hours a day and is delivered by trained emergency communications professionals at the Fire Operations Communications Centre, located at City of Prince George Fire Hall No. 1.

Nelson Fire receives approximately 1,500 calls per year and the City of Nelson approved this fire dispatch service agreement to address staffing pressures and to align with its mutual aid agencies in the Regional District of Central Kootenay who already use the Regional District of Fraser‑Fort George’s fire dispatch services.
