You are invited to the "Be Ready – Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up Event" at Pine Centre Mall on Friday March 28 and Saturday March 29.
This event is hosted in collaboration by the City of Prince George, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation to educate and inform the public ahead of wildfire season. You can learn how to protect your property from wildfire, what to pack in an emergency kit, how local governments prepare for emergencies and what happens during an evacuation.
“We’re going to have our Emergency Support Services team on-site with a reception centre set up in the mall, so people can walk through exactly what happens in an evacuation,” said Tanya Spooner, Manager of Emergency Programs for the City of Prince George. “They’ll be able to experience the steps firsthand, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the process.”
The event will feature opportunities to sign up for the Public Alerting System, expert presentations, trivia and giveaways, an "Ask the Expert" booth, and family-friendly activities like an appearance by mascots Mr. PG and Ember from FireSmart.
“We’re excited to offer the public this opportunity to learn more about emergency preparedness and what steps they can take to Be Ready. Knowledge is power - when people feel empowered to act, our community becomes more resilient,” said Anita de Dreu, Emergency Services Coordinator at the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
“Emergencies often bring fear and confusion, so providing people with information and a chance to experience the process beforehand is invaluable. Strengthening partnerships with the City and the Regional District has been a key focus this past year, and we’re proud of what we’re achieving together,” said Zawad Abedin, Director of Engineering and Operations.
No pre-registration is required. The pop-up is located next to Sephora at Pine Centre Mall and is open on Friday March 28 from10 am to 8 pm and on Saturday, March 29 form 10 am to 6pm.
