Recycle BC services launching at three locations

On September 16 the Recycle BC multi-material recycling program will launch within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George at: 

In anticipation of this launch, Regional District is focusing on staff training, updating site infrastructure and signage, and educating residents about the new program. Once these three principal depots are fully operational, the Regional District will work with Recycle BC to establish more principal depots in 2025 and identify where satellite depots could be located.

Increased hours at Mackenzie and Quinn Street sites

The Mackenzie Select Waste Landfill and Regional Transfer Station and Quinn Street Recycling Depot operating hours are increasing as a part of Recycle BC multi-material recycling program launch. These new operating hours start on September 1:

Mackenzie Select Waste Landfill and Regional Transfer Station

  • Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm

Quinn Street Recycling Depot

  • Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm

Both facilities are open from 9 am to 4 pm on Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving, and closed on all other statutory holidays.

Corporate Climate Change Action Plan Update

The Regional District's Corporate Climate Change Action Plan 2024 was approved by the Board of Directors to guide the organization in actively mitigating corporate greenhouse gas emissions.

The plan development was funded by a grant from the Local Government Climate Action Program which supports local climate action to reduce emissions and prepare communities for climate change. The Regional District also has grant funding for the next three years to implement the plan's initiatives.

Community and Recreation Grants

The Board approved requests for Community Grants in Aid and Recreation Grants in Aid to: 

  • Salmon Valley Community Association for $1,311 for operating expenses, programs and events
  • Pineview Recreation Centre for $9,500 for operating expenses and programs
  • Dunster Community Forest Society for $10,000 for fire suppression equipment
  • Wishbone Theatre Productions for $1,200 for production expenses
