Waste and recycling accepted at this site
You can drop off small loads of household waste free of charge. Make sure that the garbage is bagged and properly placed into the transfer station bins. You should also check that the bin doors close properly to prevent animals accessing the garbage.
The Recycle BC program is launching at this site on September 16, 2024.
This site will accept:
printed paper, paper packaging, corrugated cardboard, cartons and paper cups
plastic containers, metal containers
white and colour foam packaging
plastic bags and overwrap, other flexible plastic packaging
glass bottles and jars

You can recycle small loads of metal including:
non-frigerated appliances
stoves, dishwashers, washers and dryers
barbeque hulks
bicycle frames
lawnmower, motorcycle and snowmobile frames
with no fuel, lubricants or tires
metal roofing and siding
steel drums or tanks
must be cut, crushed or perforated
Private scrap metal dealers are also available for commercial operators and auto hulk disposal.
You can recycle appliances that contain refrigerant at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill. This includes:
You can effectively deal with with yard and garden waste by composting in your backyard. The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) has more information on composting and runs workshops.
Large quantities of yard and garden waste are also accepted at the site for composting including:
leaves
grass and hedge clippings
plants and flowers
vegetable stalks
shrub and tree branches up to 75 mm (3 in) in diameter
You can recycle some products including used oil, filters and containers, and used antifreeze and containers.
Cooking oil, brake fluid and grease are not accepted for recycling.
There is a materials exchange area where you can drop off or pick up used items including:
books
clothing
furniture
sporting goods
toys
The disposal fee is $98 per tonne with a $6 minimum charge. You can dispose of:
asphalt
lumber
masonry
PVC pipe
stumps
wire
Your load should not contain:
controlled waste
hazardous waste
prohibited waste
recyclable materials
Pre-approval required
Some types of controlled waste require pre-approval for disposal which is received by contacting the Regional District at 250-960-4433. If you arrive at the site without pre-approval you could be turned away without permission to dispose of the waste:
bulky waste
camp waste
concrete
condemned food
creosote treated wood
dead animals
pumping from commercial laundry lint traps, parking lot drainage sumps or sumps collecting vehicle washing facility run-off
vehicle hulks
wood ash from industrial operations
Controlled Waste, both pre-approval and permit required
Salvaging materials from marshalling areas or transfer and recycling bins is not permitted.
Waste and recycling accepted at other locations
When you buy new tires you can leave your used tires with the retailer for recycling. You can also recycle used tires that are off rims at drop-off locations. Visit Tire Stewardship BC for more information.
