Starting March 1, there will be a $2 per hour fee to use the electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Regional District facilities. The Level 2 EV chargers were complimentary for an introductory period to support EV adoption across the region, but user fees will now be implemented on a cost recovery basis.

Since the EV chargers were installed in 2023 at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride, the Canoe Valley Recreation Centre in Valemount and the 155 George Street office in Prince George, they have helped to avoid creating nearly 13,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions. Electrifying transportation is one of the most impactful things rural communities can do to decrease emissions.

The Regional District's EV chargers were installed as part of Charge North, a program to increase public access to EV charging in the central and northern parts of BC and encourage regional development, increase tourism and support local EV adoption. There are more than 30,000 electric vehicles in BC and the EV chargers help ensure that anyone can visit and enjoy our communities.
