The Regional District has launched a review of the Electoral Area H (Robson Valley-Canoe) Official Community Plan, which includes Dunster, Dome Creek, Crescent Spur, Tête Jaune Cache and the surrounding rural areas.
An official community plan describes the long-term vision of a community. The plan includes goals, objectives and policies that guide planning and land use management and addresses matters like housing, transportation, infrastructure and climate change. The current official community plans for Electoral Area H were adopted in 2001 and 2006. It is time for an update to reflect and balance the natural environment, population growth, and housing and development needs. This review will replace the two existing plans, the Robson Valley-Canoe Downstream Official Community Plan and the Robson Valley-Canoe Upstream Official Community Plan with a single, updated plan for the whole electoral area.
Community engagement is a valuable part of this planning process. Input provided by residents, businesses, property owners, community groups, special interest groups and First Nations will introduce ideas and perspectives that may not be explored through technical planning work alone.
“This is an opportunity for residents to help shape the future of Electoral Area H,” said Kenna Jonkman, the Regional District's General Manager of Community and Development Services. “Local knowledge, priorities and ideas are essential to creating a plan that reflects the community’s needs.”
The first opportunity to provide input into the official community plan review is through a survey that focuses on community vision, values, priorities and trade-offs. The survey is available online on the Electoral Area H official community plan project webpage or by picking up a paper copy* of the survey at Robson Valley Recreation Centre or Canoe Valley Recreation Centre. The survey is open until Friday October 23, 2026 and residents that share their thoughts can enter to win a $100 gift certificate.
