The assessment will recommend the work you can do to improve your home's wildfire resiliency like installing non-combustible building materials and managing trees and vegetation.

When this recommended work is completed, you can receive a rebate of 50% of your costs, up to a maximum of $5,000. You can read the FireSmart Rebate Guidelines for the full terms and conditions of this program.

About FireSmart BC

FireSmart BC is the provincial program helping to reduce BC's wildfire risk and providing resources for residents, neighborhoods and communities looking to protect themselves and their properties.

  • The program is based on scientific research that shows simple FireSmart tasks like mowing your lawn, cleaning your gutters and pruning your trees can make your property more resilient to wildfire.
  • Wildfires need fuel like trees, grass or other vegetation to ignite and spread. Embers can easily spark fires by landing on flammable materials around your home and cause significant damage or even total structure loss. Removing vegetation and combustible debris from your property and preventing ember buildup can significantly reduce the risk of your home igniting.
  • The FireSmart BC website has resources like the FireSmart BC Begins At Home Guide and the interactive FireSmart Landscaping Hub that lists fire-resistant plants and tips to create a FireSmart landscape.
